Day 10 - Italy muzzle Uruguay as England scrape through

The results from day 10 of TFWC2014 are available on the 'Fixtures and results' page and the group tables have been updated.

Day 10 saw the final group matches for Groups C and D. Greece (Mason Owen) had already secured top spot in Group C and Colombia (GVA) will join them as runners-up.

In Group D, Italy (Suttons & Robertsons) had already secured a place in the last 16 and only needed to send one player today to secure a third victory and top spot in the group. That left the winner-takes-all clash between Costa Rica (Liverpool Echo) and England (CBRE), which more than lived up to expectation. A thrilling match saw Costa Rica - who only needed a draw to progress - lay a late siege to the England goal, but England held on to win by a single goal and progress as runners-up.

We had already said goodbye to Ivory Coast (Active Profile) in Group C, but we also said goodbye today to Uruguay (City Central BID) and Japan (Ellesmere Port Development Board). Today's results also ended the hopes of Mexico (Ico Energy) for a 'lucky loser' place, although with 4 of the 8 groups completed Costa Rica (Liverpool Echo) are currently the third place team with the best record and are poised to snatch a 'lucky loser' place if Hill Dickinson B or C achieve a top 2 finish.

Today's results also mean that Monday's schedule in the Round of 16 is now confirmed as follows:

Brazil (Hill Dickinson) v Netherlands (Merseytravel) Mon 30.06.14 @ 1230
Greece (Mason Owen) v England (CBRE) Mon 30.06.14 @ 1245
Chile (Ridge) v Cameroon (Mazars) Mon 30.06.14 @ 1300
Italy (Suttons & Robertsons) v Colombia (GVA) Mon 30.06.14 @ 1315
